Not that I need another game at this point, but I’m feeling adventurous. Everything’s stored on the device, so Hasbro doesn’t need to collect kids’ personal data and the game stays COPPA-compliant. Once they’ve defeated the villains, kids will be able to place a Trap into the new portal to capture them. Skylanders Trap Team, the newest installment due out in North America on October 5, 2014, reverses the magic of bringing toys to life – incredibly letting kids pull characters out of the digital world into the physical world. With Skylanders Trap Team, Portal Masters seek out and defeat the most wanted villains in all of Skylands, pulling them out of the game and into living rooms by capturing them in magical Traps. Launching in October, Skylanders Trap Team brings a ground-breaking innovation to the Skylanders franchise by reversing the magic of its signature Toys-To-Life play pattern to let kids bring life-to-toys for the first time. However, the phone and goggles can also be removed from the helmet so the kids can just pretend to be Iron Man the old-fashioned way, sans game. The latter element is what Hasbro’s new Hero Vision Iron Man AR helmet aims to imitate, using a phone to display its own custom HUD so kids can feel like they’re really wearing the armored Avenger’s suit.

It’d be a fairly generic shooter if it were just a phone game; the magic is unlocked when you’re fully kitted out in Iron Man’s helmet and gauntlet. There’s a small red gauntlet with markings on it that allows the app to track your hand movements. As for the main set, it’ll be released this spring for $50, and includes the helmet, gauntlet and one Infinity Stone, just in time for kids to act out their favorite scenes from the new Marvel movie. There are no headphones inside the helmet, which relies entirely on your handset for sound. There were a few questions raised to me on just what constituted a “key member.” This week, I got to chat with CO’s resident wiki mistress, Lohr. Luckily, there are numerous Halloween-themed games that are great for parties, families or even just hanging out by yourself. The main villain is Thanos, who pops out of a portal to growl and gesticulate menacingly before sending waves and waves of generic drones to attack you. And he’s not alone — other contestants include an elderly man who becomes the grandfather of the group, a North Korean refugee, a gangster with a snake tattoo on his face, and a highly educated man who was the pride of his hometown, but didn’t quite live up to his potential.

To help, toy companies like Hasbro sell costumes, game costumes weapons and other props so kids can live out their Captain America and Iron Man fantasies. You can also dress up as Pandora, or as the priciest, but easily the most awesome looking, Smith and Weston. By the end of it, you’ll have a stack of disenchantables (or materials, if you can “de” yourself), blues, cloth, money, potions, and a variety of other items to throw into the guild bank. I have some issues with both games that stop me from being a super-fan, but they’re definitely enjoyable. Costume Quest 2 is an action RPG where players control one of two siblings, Wren or Reynold, exploring their neighbourhood and fighting monsters to stop Dr. Orel White from outlawing Halloween. Some cards you find while exploring, others you can buy from the card dealer, Shady, along with maps of the game’s locations and costume upgrades. • You can also pre-order select Halloween costumes, accessories, and decorations online before they become available for sale. The game comes out appropriately on Halloween.

Each round doles out in-game currency that allows you to purchase better weapons and armor, but there’s no real-world cash involved, so parents won’t have to give out their credit card info here. But a plastic shield will only take you so far: It can’t give you super strength or speed, and you certainly can’t throw it at bad guys and have it return to your hands afterward.
